- Go to the General Ledger work center.
- Go to Journal Entries view.
- Filter Journal Entry Type to 0095 - Techn. Clearing of Bank Clearing Account.
- A list of journal entries with this type is visible, and the Source Document Type is Bank Statement.
- Select one Journal Entry and scroll down to see the details section: There are no general ledger-relevant line items in this Journal Entry because it is used to clear open items.
- Open it, in the Line Items section, click view all, the the details can be displayed.
Cause
Some business transactions are split into individual steps and posted separately. In this way, some steps lead to journal entries that would produce a balance of zero on the same account on the debit and credit side and would double revenues on the G/L accounts. Consequently, the line items of such business transactions are summarized and the journal entry is portrayed without line items.
The data for these postings is managed exclusively in the subledger so that items of an account are assigned to each other. This is not relevant for general ledger accounting. In the case of journal entry XYZ, because it's used to clear open items, so no general ledger relevant line items are generated.
Resolution
Add the "Not Relevant to G/L" characteristic to some reports (such as Report Journal and Report G/L Accounts - Line Items) to see all line items including the items that are not relevant to the general ledger:
- Open the report.
- Add field 'Not G/L relevant' to Selection.
- Use value of the field in Selection and pick the value as 'X', which means true.
- Apply, then the report shows all items.
