Symptom

The following errors are given when trying to install SAP Business Objects Business Intelligence 4.x:

Missing: Validate network settings (Critical)
Reason: localhost, 127.0.0.1 or the machine's hostname are not pingable. INS00293

or

Failed: Network settings (Critical)
Information: Running ping failed against localhost, 127.0.0.1, or the machine's hostname.
Please configure your machine to allow them to be contacted in order to proceed. INS00293
