1635943 - Is the same XML functionality supported in BOBJ 4.0 as it is in XI3.x?

Symptom

We are using DF currently to connect to web services using XML data as a source in XI3.x?

I want to check if this functionality is supported in BOBJ 4.0,and if so how?

Cause

Based on my reading, in BOBJ 4.0 the data federator product (from XI3.x) has been integrated with Information Design Tool. So using IDT now we can create multiple connections to various data sources and create one universe that pulls data from these sources. However, I could not find out from documentation or from within IDT whether it supports connections to XML data.

Resolution

The XML functionality from DF XI 3.x is not available in BI 4.0. Maybe it will be added in a future release.

In BI 4.0 you can still create a connection to a DF XI 3.x Query Server with UDT (Universe Design Tool) and then use it as in BOE XI 3.x.

This is only a work-around solution until the XML connectivity will be officially supported in BI 4.x.

There is no BI 4.0 documentation on that topic that has been published to date. But BI 4.0 was meant to support connections/universes that were created in BOE 3.x.

That's why UDT was maintained and not simply replaced by IDT. So you cannot create a connection to a DF XI 3.x Query Server in IDT, but you can still create a DF connection and a universe based on it with UDT.

For the connectivity to DF XI 3.x Query Server you don't need to configure the BI 4.0 as it was the case in BOE 3.x (update jdbc.sbo file to set the path to the DF driver, etc). In BI 4.0, it works directly.
