1636478 - Leading Zeroes Are Truncated in the Material ID

Symptom

You notice that when you create a material with an ID that has leading zeroes followed by numeric values, the leading zeros are truncated.

Environment

SAP Business ByDesign

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to Product Data work center.
  2. Select New Material under Common Tasks.
  3. Enter a material ID with leading zeroes (for example, 000123).
  4. Upon saving, the ID is saved only as 123 instead of 000123

Cause

If the material ID have alpha-conversion enabled, then the below mentioned behavior is the same for all alpha-conversion identifiers.

If you enter the material ID with leading zeroes followed by numeric values, the zeroes will be truncated. But if you have a material ID with leading zeroes followed by alphanumeric values (for exampe, 000X12), then the zeros will remain.

Resolution

This is the expected system behavior.
