Symptom
When you assign a Distribution rule for an employee based on a Postal Code, system throws exception.
Reproducing the Issue
- Go to Organizational Management work center.
- Select Employee Work Distribution view.
- Edit a Work Category (Ex: Approver for Receivables).
- Assign a Rule for an employee based on a set of Postal codes.
- Select Save Button.
System takes long processing time and results in an exception.
Cause
When you are trying to add the responsibilities (based on postal code) to an employee ( postal code XXXXX – YYYYY). There will be around thousands of contacts matching this criterion and ByDesign is trying to send all these contacts to Outlook. Hence the dump occurs. The integration cannot handle such high amounts of data.
Resolution
Usually it is suggested to keep the responsibilities as minimum as possible.
So you can maintain responsibilities in more granular way. For example, these postal code ranges can be broken further and assigned as different rules.
Here the solution is to break the range of postal address into the parts. Assign this ranges as a different rule in the work distribution.
