1652835 - Combine Fields in a Formula where some Fields are Null.

Symptom

  •  No data, when combining two fields in crystal reports.

Environment

 Crystal Reports (All Versions)

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Create a Crystal Report, with three text fields.
  2. Give Null values to some fields. 
  3. Create the following formula to combine three fields. 
  4. {Field 1} + {Field 2} + {Field 3}

  5. Place formula in detail section.
  6.  

Cause

 

This is default behavior of Crystal Reports

Resolution

 

Do the following to get desired results with the formula :

  1. Open the formula. 
  2. Select drop down box ‘Exception For Null’ and select ‘Default values for Null. 
  3. Save the formula.

Or

  1. Insert a Text field on report.
  2. Place the three fields with a Space after field.
  3. Then right click on text box, select format and check suppress embedded field blank lines
