Symptom

When you create a new material with UoM as Gram per liter and Kilogram per cubic meter, system throws error message 'Save Failed'.

Environment

SAP Business ByDesign

Reproducing the Issue

Prerequisite: An UoM like Gram per liter and Kilogram per cubic meter exists in Business Configuration Work Center.

  1. Go to Product Data Work Center.
  2. Select New Material under Common Tasks.
  3. Assign the created UoM as Base UoM.
  4. Select Save button, then the error would occur.

Cause

Non-summable quantities like gram per liter and kilogram per cubic meter cannot be used as a unit of measure (UoM). These cannot be considered as base units of measure because they represent the density of the material, which is a derived quantity containing two variable measures. Therefore, they cannot be summed up.
