1665912 - ERROR: "Login failed for user xyz. Reason: Failed to open the explicitly specified database" when restoring a database - BPC

Symptom

  • When restoring a database on a multi Server environment, OLAP database is not restored. The Window is standing still with the message "Creating OLAP database"

  • On the database server, the following message is found in the MSSQL logs:

    Login failed for user xyz. Reason: Failed to open the explicitly specified database.


    The same message on OS level:
    Event Type: Failure Audit
    Event Source: MSSQLSERVER
    Event Category: Logon
    Event ID: 18456
    Date: 12/15/2011
    Time: 6:02:50 PM
    User: xyz
    Computer: servername
    Description:
    Login failed for user 'DOMAIN\xyz'. Reason: Failed to open the explicitly specified database. [CLIENT: 10.xxx.xxx.xxx]
