Symptom

- Crystal Reports "crash" when refreshing a report that contains summarized memo fields that contains large number of characters
Environment
- Crystal Reports 2008
- Crystal Reports 2011
Reproducing the Issue
- In Crystal Reports, create a report off any data source that contains a database string fields with database values of more than 3,500 characters
- Insert a group on the report
- Insert the large string database fields in the details section, and add a maximum summary on it for the group
- Refresh the report.
Crystal Reports will terminate unexpectedly if there is data that contains more than 3,500 characters, and you have a large number of records. ( Like 30,000 records)
Cause
- This is a known issue that has been track under ADAPT01597259
Resolution
- The issue is resolved in the following product update of Crystal Reports 2008:
- Fix Pack 4.2
- The issue is planned to be resolved in the following product updates of Crystal Reports 2008:
- Fix Pack 5.1
- Service Pack 6
- To workaround the issue, replace the Crystal Reports summary used on the memo field, by a manual running total
