1668118 - Error Message: 'Determination of profit center from Sales Unit XYZ failed'

Symptom

You have created a sales document (like sales order, customer invoice, customer contract, …) with XYZ (XYZ represents the sales document) as a Sales Unit and get the following error in the Unposted Business Transactions:

'Determination of profit center from Sales Unit XYZ on DD.MM.YYYY  failed.'

'The posting date specified in the sales document is not within the validity range of the sales unit.'

'The validity range can be seen on tabstrip 'Timelines' under 'Functions > Sales' in the Organizational Management Work center.'

'If the posting date was specified correctly in the sales document, adjust the validity range of the sales unit accordingly. Then complete and post the business transaction.'

Otherwise, correct the posting date in the sales document. Note that the posting date is often specified on item level of the sales document.

Environment

Reproducing the Issue

Step 1: Creation of sales document with XYZ as a Sales Unit with Posting Date as DD.MM.YYYY.

Step 2: Steps to view the error description in Unposted Business Transactions.

  1. Go to General Ledger work center.
  2. Select Source Documents subview under Closing Cockpit view
  3. Select the row which has the affected sales document and select View Business Transaction.

Cause

In the sales document you have specified Sales Unit XYZ and posting date DD.MM.YYYY. (Note that the posting date can often be specified on item level of the sales document.) However, for DD.MM.YYYY, the sales unit is not valid.

Resolution

If the posting date in the sales document or sales document item was specified incorrectly, adjust it to the correct date.

Otherwise, enhance the validity of the sales unit in organizational management. The validity can be found on tabstrip ‘Timelines’ under ‘Functions > Sales’. For the organizational structure, certain validations will be performed. For example: Every sales unit must be assigned to a profit center. This means that either the sales unit itself is defined as a profit center or an organizational unit above the sales unit. After you have adjusted the organizational structure, so that all validations are successful, you can activate your changes.
