Symptom
- Unable to create a XML/web service connection from Crystal Reports (CR)2008 SP3 on Windows 7 machine.
- Following error shown while creating a new connection from CR designer.
"Error: Invalid Argument provided.
Details: Java Server startup failure. Please verify the PATH, CLASSPATH and IORFileLocation properties in the CRConfig.xml file. In addition, verify that you are using JDK1.5”
Environment
- Windows 7 Enterprise edition, 64 bit with no sp. (Version6.1 build 7600.)
- Crystal Reports 2008 SP3
- Java 1.6.0_20
Reproducing the Issue
- Launch CR2008.
- Create new blank report.
- In Database Expert click on + sign on XML and Web Service. Normally it should show a window starting the wizard for new connection. However it shows above error message.
Note: All Windows 7 Enterprise Edition 64 bit machine show this problem however problem is not reproducible on Windows7 Professional and also on Windows 7 Ultimate Edition (64 bit).
Cause
Exact cause could not be identified however this problem is observed on this specific version of Windows 7.
Resolution
Upgrade Windows 7 Enterprise to a version later than Version6.1 build 7600.
