1686419 - SAP Crystal Reports designer does not recognize Access *.accdb file and .NET application in 64 bit mode

Symptom

  • Creating a new report in the Crystal Reports designer
  • When choosing Access/Excel (DAO) connection type under Set Datasource Location, no .accdb files are visible

Environment

  • SAP Crystal Reports 2011/ 2013
  • Windows 7 64 bit
  • Microsoft Office 2010 or above
  • OLE DB Provider

Cause

  • Crystal Reports now only supports ODBC to *.accdb file from Access 2007 and later file format
  • Crystal Reports now will support an OLE DB connection to *.accdb using the Mircosoft Office 2010 or above OLE DB Provider in 32 or 64 bit versions

Note: you cannot have MS Office 32 bit and MS Office 64 bit on the same PC

When creating your reports you need to use the 32 bit version of the Office OLE DB Provider installed.

When creating and using a Crystal Reports Developer for Visual Studio in 64 bit mode application you need to have the 64 bit MS Office OLE DB provider installed ONLY.

Resolution

  • Create a 32 or 64 bit ODBC datasource and use it to create the report
  • Install the 32 bit MS OLE DB Provider for Report Design and 32 bit Application .NET runtime. ( not to be installed on the Development PC, use the VS installer only )
  • Install the 64 bit MS Office 2010 or above OLE DB Provider for 64 bit Application usage.

To get the MS Office 2010 OLE DB Provider install Office 64 bit or you can download either them from this link:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-in/download/details.aspx?id=13255

Note: only 32 bit or 64 are allowed on the same PC.
