1686517 - Current VM is not supported according to the specified compatibility list

Symptom

  • The server administrator tries to start the J2EE engine and this operation fails due to the VM not being recognized. The server nodes do not reach the "running" state due to this.
  • The SAP Application Server JAVA startup fails due to wrong Virtual Machine (VM) being used and error similar to the below is logged in the trace files (defaulttrace file, std_server<x> and dev_server<x>):
    • java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: com/sap/bc/proj/jstartup/JStartupNatives (Unsupported major.minor version 49.0).
    • FATAL: Current VM is not supported according to the specified compatibility list. com.sap.engine.offline.OfflineToolStart will abort now with exitcode 3.
