1693119 - Error: 'Operation Failed : You do not have edit rights on <Folder Name>' when attempting to create a Folder in the Repository, in Crystal Reports

Symptom

  • Unable to create a folder.
  • Error when attempting to create a folder in the repository.
  • When users attempt to create a folder in the Repository in the Business View Manager, or in Crystal Reports, it fails with an error:

       "Operation Failed : You do not have edit rights on: <Folder Name>"

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Start Crystal Reports.
  2. Under the menu "View", select "Repository Explorer"
  3. In the "Repository Explorer" pane, click on "Logon", and login to the SAP BusinessObjects BI server.
  4. In the "Repository Explorer", create a new folder.
    It then generated the error:  'Operation Failed : You do not have edit rights on <Folder Name>'

Cause

  • User does not have the right to edit the SAP BusinessObjects Repository. 

Resolution

  • Add the View, and Edit rights to the user on the Repository, in the Business View Manager: 
        
    1. Start the Business View Manager.
        
    2. Log On to the BusinessObjects Enterprise using an Administrator account.
        
    3. If the screen "Welcome to Business View Manager" display, click "Cancel" 
         
    4. Under the menu "View", select "Repository Explorer"
        
    5. In the "Repository Explorer" pane on the right side, right click on the folder, and select: "Edit Rights..."

    6. In the "Edit Rights" window, add the User who is unable to create a folder.
        
    7. Grant the user the rights: View and Edit.

    8. Click "OK" 
       
         
  • Note: To give rights to the whole Repository, grant the View and Edit rights on the root folder.
