1709737 - Error on accessing Support, Creating a system object or opening a folder after upgrade to Portal 7.3 and above

Symptom

  • Upgrade to SAP Netweaver Enterprise portal 7.3 and above from any lower version like SAP Netweaver 7.0, 7.01 and 7.02 might result in a number of Portal Runtime errors.
  • Portal Runtime errors are obtained when navigated to System Administration -> Support.

  • In the trace files, following exceptions can be seen:
com.sapportals.portal.prt.component.PortalComponentException: Error in init method
Component : com.sap.portal.support.desk.default      
Caused by: com.sap.portal.prt.om.ObjectNotAvailableException: Object: [com.sap.portal.support.desk.default] load failed                                                                                                                                                            
Caused by: com.sap.portal.prt.broker.PortalComponentInstantiationException: Could not instantiate implementation class com.sap.portal.support.SupportDeskComponent of Portal Component com.sap.portal.support.desk.default because: Could not find implementation class
  • When you try to create / edit a system object or open a folder in the portal content directory, you receive a portal runtime error with an exception id
  • Go to System Administration -> Systems Configuration -> Portal content -> Right click -> New -> System (from template).

  • In the trace files, following exceptions can be seen:
com.sapportals.portal.prt.component.PortalComponentException: Error in service call of Portal Component Application name : com.sap.portal.appdesigner.framework 
Component : pcd:portal_content/com.sap.pct/admin.templates/iviews/editors/com.sap.portal.pcmEditor
Component class : com.sap.portal.admin.propertyeditor.core_functionality.PCMEditor
java.lang.NullPointerException: while trying to invoke the method com.sapportals.htmlb.Component.setParent(com.sapportals.htmlb.Container) of an object loaded from local variable 'component'
  • When trying to view the System Landscape Configuration, a portal runtime error is received.
  • Go to System Administration -> System Landscape:

  • In the trace files, following exceptions can be seen:
The object found is not an IView: <XXX>
    • Portal runtime errors might be obtained when opening an iView.
  • Also, portal runtime errors might be obtained when creating an iView in the portal. Following exceptions can be seen in the trace files:

com.sapportals.portal.prt.runtime.PortalRuntimeException: The object found is not an IView: <XXX>
