1715429 - Range Bex Variables do not accept range values within query builder.

Symptom


Only one value is accepted when a prompt is presented for a Range Variable based off a BEx Query within Query Builder in Dashboards.

Environment

  • Dashboards Design 4.x
  • Dashboards Design 4.x

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Create a BEx Query with filters and restrict them using Range Variables.
  2. Create a connection to that BEx query in IDT
  3. Within Dashboard add a query by clicking on Add Query Button within Query Browser.
  4. Authenticate by entering User ID/Password
  5. Select "BEx" as a data Source
  6. Select the connection made within IDT (done in Step 2)
  7. Once the query structure is displayed, select characteristics to display.
  8. Click Next to get prompted for the
  9. Click to enter value, you'll see single value could be entered rather than a range.

Cause

This is a limitation in Dashboard 4.0.  Variable with range values input is not supported.

Resolution

Recommendation is to exclude the range value variable from the BEx query. You can achieve the same goal by adding a filter with operator "Between" in the query panel.
