1718912 - Difference between DataXchange and Web Services

Symptom

You send Update request of Web Service (for example, ItemUpdateRequest) where you want to change several master data fields of a configuration business object. So, in the Web Service script you specify key (required) fields with the data of the existing object and the fields which you want to change with the new values. The rest of fields are not included into the request.

For example, if you want just change the Description of a material and thus specify site, material, revision, lot size of existing material and the new description, the system works this way:

  • it wipes out Router/Revision, removes Document assignments – these data are stored in child tables of WIP.ITEM table;
  • it does not change BOM/Revision, Unit of Measure, Qty Multiplier, Panel, Collector, TSM checkbox, other data on TSM tab – these data are stored in WIP.ITEM table.

However, sending the similar request of Data Exchange will let you update the existing fields and keep the data in child tables.
