Symptom
Unable to change "Qualifier/Owner" in Multi-Source Data Foundations after changing the connection in Connections tab of data foundation.
Environment
- Business Objects 4.0 SP02 patch 17
- Data Base: Sql Server 2008
- Middleware: ODBC, OLEDB
- OS: Windows Server
Reproducing the Issue
- Login to IDT and create a new relational connection for sql server database using ODBC middle ware.
- Create a multi source data foundation and insert a table which is present in any of two databases.
- Right click on the table and click on change owner/qualifier, change the owner to another database in which the table is there and save it. It updates the new owner and qualifier for the table.
- Right click on the table and click show values, it brings up the table values.
- However in data foundation if we go to Data Foundation- Connection tabs –Right click and change the connection to another connection to the same database and then change the owner/qualifier, it is saying ‘no connection’ when we keep the mouse on the table.
- It gives an error ‘Data Source Cannot be null’ when viewing table values.
- The issue is with OLEDB middleware also.
Resolution
After testing in Business objects 4.0 SP04 there is no more issue by following the below workflows.
Work around 1:
- This works in Business Objects 4.0 SP2 Patch 17 also.
- Modify the existing connection(with other database name) and republish the connection overwriting the existing one(and then change the connection in data foundations tab)
- Now the data foundation is unable to identify the connection, when we right click on the connection name we get an option “Quick Fix”.
- Select Quick Fix and re-point the new connection and save.
- Try to change owner/qualifier and click on show values, it displays the table values.
- Now we are able to change owner/qualifier.
Work around 2:
- Create a relational connection, and create a mutli source data foundation on it.
- Try to change owner/qualifier and view table values, it works fine and gives table values.
- In data foundation, go to change connection(in ‘Connections’ tab) and change the existing connection with some new connection.
- Now try to change the owner/qualifier, we will get the error: “Invalid connection: connection is not registered”.
- Republish the new connection to repository and overwrite it.
