1740384 - Key figures displayed as String after upgrading to SP04 in Crystal Reports for Enterprise and Web Intelligence

Symptom

Web Intelligence and Crystal Reports for Enterprise have a limitation involving BEx Queries where a measure is the result of a calculation and is mixing data types.

These BI reporting clients DO NOT support the concept of cell-based data types.

A simple example is:

Revenue
Row 1 USA 5
Row 2 Europe 10
Row 3 % USA (of total) 33%
Row 4 % Europe (of total) 66%

The limitation in these reporting clients is that the product is un-able to assign an unique data type and therefore the measure is assigned “String” as the data type.

In the above example the measure Revenue is not “unique” in its data type because there are numbers and there are percentages. This is just a basic example to illustrate the support problem.

This is commonly seen in situations where BEx Queries have BW Structures with Cell Editor calculations defined (i.e. financial reporting scenarios).
