1745884 - Unable to view image stored on a secured website (https) in Crystal Reports

Symptom

  • The image is blank.
  • No pictures are displayed on the report.
  • Pictures stored on a secured URL is not accessible from Crystal Reports.
  • Picture does not appear in Crystal Reports, when it is stored on a secured website. ( HTTPS )
  • It is possible to view the picture stored on a secured website in an internet browser, but not in Crystal Reports.

Environment

  • SAP Crystal Reports 2016
  • SAP Crystal Reports 2020
  • SAP Crystal Reports 2025  

Reproducing the Issue

  1. In Crystal Reports, insert a picture on the report.
  2. Right click on the picture, and select "Format Graphic..."
  3. Under the "Picture" tab, for the Graphic Location insert a secured https link to a picture like:
      
    https://mySecureServer/myPicture.jpg
        
  4. Refresh a report. 
      
    The image with a secured URL (https) will not be displayed on the report. It will be blank.

Cause

  • The picture does not display because images located on a secured website (https) is not supported in the version of Crystal Reports used.

Resolution

  • Secured website hyperlink (https) is supported for the option "Graphic Location" from the following version of Crystal Reports, and above:
          
    • Crystal Reports 2020
      • Support Pack 04 - Patch 16
      • Support Pack 05 - Patch 3
          
    • Crystal Reports 2025
      • Patch 7
          
            
  • If you cannot update to a version of Crystal Reports where secured website hyperlink is supported, then the workarounds are:
    • Store the images on an unsecured web server ( HTTP ); OR
    • Store the images on the local hard drive, or internal network.
