The default setting for Platform Search is 'Continuous crawling'. This can be configured in CMC > Applications > Platform Search Application.
Even after setting the option to 'Scheduled Crawling' and saving, you notice that the Adaptive Processing Server is still crawling and continuously indexing the content in the system. This can be confirmed by looking at the top of the Platform Search Application page where the following two values keep updating:
