1757129 - RAS will not start in SAP Crystal Reports Server 2011 on RedHat 6

Symptom

In SAP Crystal Reports Server 2011 installed on RedHat 6, the Report Application Server (RAS) is present in the Central Management Console but cannot be started.

Environment

  • Crystal Reports Server 2011
  • RedHat 6

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Install SAP Crystal Reports Server 2011 on RedHat 6
  2. RAS server is present in the Central Managment Console but cannot be started.

Cause

This is a known issue as described on page 3 of the PAM, RedHat 6 is not supported for Crystal Reports 2011:

https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/index?rid=/library/uuid/e05429d2-7697-2f10-92a4-c014bbafa825&overridelayout=true

The FP3 and SP04 installation should prevent the installation of the RAS server all together through the prerequisite checks, but it does not (ADAPT01657921).  What happens is the installation will proceed with the RAS installation even though it should not.  That is why there is a service that simply does not start up.

Resolution

If you need to use RAS with Crystal Reports Server 2011 you will need to use a support platform such as RedHat 5 or SUSE 11.
