1765566 - Error Message "Cannot delete cost center XYZ; it is assigned to a resource"

Symptom

When you try to check or activate an Org Structure after deleting or delimiting a Cost Center, system throws below error message:

Cannot delete cost center XYZ; it is assigned to a resource

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to Organizational Management work center.
  2. Select Edit Org Structures.
  3. Check or Activate the Org Structure.

Cause

The cause for the issue is that the Cost Center that you are try to delete/delimit is still being used in any Resources (Ex: Labor Resource, Equipment Resource, Vehicle Resource or Resource Group) in the system.

To verify, follow the below steps:

  1. Go to Supply Chain Design Master Data or Cost and Revenue work center.
  2. Select Resources view.
  3. Select All Resources in Show field.
  4. Select Advanced and input Cost Center XYZ in Cost Center ID field.

You can find the list of resources in the search result.

 

Resolution

To resolve the issue, follow the best suitable option which suits your business.

Option 1: Delete the Resource

  1. Go to Supply Chain Design Master Data or Cost and Revenue work center.
  2. Select Resources view.
  3. Select All Resources in Show field.
  4. Select Advanced and input Cost Center XYZ in Cost Center ID field.
  5. Highlight the Resource and select Delete button

Option 2: Block the status of the Resource

  1. Go to Supply Chain Design Master Data or Cost and Revenue work center.
  2. Select Resources view.
  3. Select All Resources in Show field.
  4. Select Advanced and input Cost Center XYZ in Cost Center ID field.
  5. Highlight the Resource and select Change Status button and choose Block option.

After performing any one of the above option, you can try to check or activate the Org Structure again.

Option 3:

Reassign the Cost Center attribute to the respective Org Unit.
