1785161 - An attempt was made to access a database, <SID>, which was not found.

Symptom

After upgrade/migration the SAP Application Server Java is unable to start and keeps receiving an error while logging into Config Tool. This is the error message: 

  • “Error occurred while working with Configuration (Scanning). Msg: Error while connecting to DB.”

From /usr/sap/<SID>/<InstID>/work/jvm_bootstrap.out or /usr/sap/<SID>/<InstID>/j2ee/configtool/configtool/system.log it is possible to see the following error:

  • SQL error occurred on connection {3}: code={0,number,integer}, state="{1}",
    message="{2}".#5#-4499#08004#[ibm][db2][jcc][t4][2057][11264] The
    application server rejected establishment of the connection.
    An attempt was made to access a database, <SID>, which was not
    found.#jdbc:db2://<hostname>:<port>/<SID>:deferPrepares=0;#<null>#
