1787760 - Cannot Open Fiscal Period - SAP Business ByDesign

• During the first implementation, a fiscal period 001 of year YYYY was opened by mistake, but the expected fiscal period to be opened is the same period of fiscal year YYYY-1.
• When trying to open the period 001 for year YYYY-1, the system gives error message: "Revoking period 001 not possible: Only one open interval allowed".
• Then it's attempted to close period XXX of fiscal year YYYY, but errors are raised:

"Closing of period 001 not possible: Previous fiscal year not closed;"
"Cannot close all periods in fiscal year YYYY; Bal.Car.Fwd. not finished."

SAP Business ByDesign

1. Go to the General Ledger work center.
2. Choose Open and Close Periods under Common Tasks.
3. Notice that the period 001 of fiscal year YYYY is opened.
4. Try to open period 001 of fiscal year YYYY-1, the system gives error message: "Revoking period 001 not possible: Only one open interval allowed".
5. Try to close period 001 of year YYYY first before opening the same period of year YYYY-1, but the system gives other error messages:

"Closing of period 001 not possible: Previous fiscal year not closed;" 

"Cannot close all periods in fiscal year YYYY; Bal.Car.Fwd. not finished".

• It is not allowed to open periods which do not correspond to one interval. For example, only periods 6, 7 and 8 can be opened, but period 011 cannot be opened.
• In this way, one open interval is from period 006 till 008.
• Accounting period 001 of YYYY needs to be closed first, however, as the previous year YYYY-1 is not closed, the first period of YYYY cannot be closed.

To fix the issue, the fiscal year YYYY must be deleted, as there are no postings made to this year yet:

1. Go to the General Ledger work center, and select the Master Data view.
2. Then select the Sets of Books and Assigned Companies subview.
3. Choose Edit Fiscal Year.
4. Delete fiscal year YYYY.

After that, open the correct period 001 of YYYY-1, and then create fiscal year YYYY again.
