1798234 - Lumira Desktop - What are the differences between HANA Online and Offline acquisition types?

Symptom

  • When creating a new document based on HANA, the user is presented with 2 connectivity options:

  • However, the differences between the two data source acquisition types are not always clear.

Environment

  • SAP Lumira Desktop 1.x

Resolution

  1. Connect to SAP HANA means that data is acquired from the HANA server ‘live’ in read-only mode. In this case, data manipulation options are limited, and can only be visualized in charts. Data is not stored locally in the Lumira client.
  2. Download from SAP HANA means data is pulled from the HANA Cube into the local computer. This allows local data manipulation, editing and enrichment. Offline mode stores the HANA dataset within the .lums file.
