1801866 - ESI - Proxy generation terminated: Incorrect value: Unknown Type Reference

Symptom

When creating an ABAP proxy with reference to a document-style WSDL file the below error is displayed.

<faultcode>soap:Server</faultcode>
<faultstring>SIDL/SLIB Exception</faultstring>
<slibfault:text>Incorrect value: Unknown Type Referencen ... </slibfault:text>

The same error is also received when analyzing the WSDL file via report RSSIDL_DESERIALIZE_DEMO.
