1802974 - ME 6.1 Configuration for Installation or Update CTC wizard fails with NullPointerException or ME cannot be accessed after NetWeaver restart

Symptom

  • You run SAP ME Configuration for Installation or Update CTC wizard while installing or upgrading to SAP ME 6.1. The wizard fails with exception like:

'...java.lang.NullPointerException: while trying to invoke the method com.sap.me.frame.configuration.metadata.TemplateDefinition.getDoClassName() of an object loaded from local variable 'subTemplateDef'...' or '...java.lang.NullPointerException: while trying to invoke the method java.lang.String.toLowerCase(java.util.Locale) of an object loaded from static field com.sap.me.frame.dao.DataAccessServiceFactory.dbVendor...'

  • You finished migration of SAP ME from 6.0 to 6.1 and have just restarted the NetWeaver. After the instance is up and running, you cannot access SAP ME, however, all application components of SAP ME have Running (green) status in NWA > Start&Stop. The exception in the defaulttrace looks like:

'ResourceException occurred in method ConnectionFactoryImpl.getConnection():com.sap.engine.services.connector.exceptions.BaseResourceException: Cannot get connection. Reason: the thread of components  "ejbContexts/sap.com/me~ear/me.appconfig.efb-6.1.1.0.jar/ApplicationSettingBO""in application "sap.com/me~ear" is currently associated with a restricted resource set and it is not allowed to get connection within it...

...at com.sap.me.frame.jdbc.DatabaseUtils.getDatabaseVendor(DatabaseUtils.java:44)...

...at com.sap.me.appconfig.ApplicationSettingBOBean.<init>(ApplicationSettingBOBean.java:62)...'
