1807254 - Basic search behavior with extension fields

You try to search, via the basic search, for a value which is contained in an extension field but the result is not as expected. If you use the filter option on the extension field column you can find the expected value.

1. From the desired work center, open the desired view. In this example Product Data – Materials view. (the same is true for other business objects such as opportunity, ticket, etc., too).
2. Select the relevant query from the drop-down. For example 'All'.
3. Search for the desired value (for example a value available on an extension field XYZ), using the basic search. For example, the value XXX available on the extension field XYZ.

Result: The search doesn't return the expected result. It might a) not find the value XXX available on the extension field XYZ, or b) find different amounts of results compared to your expectation.

However, if you filter the column of the field XYZ directly with value XXX, results are found as expected.

The system behavior for the basic search consists in having a search limited to a fixed number of set fields.

If an extension field is added to the system, it will not be searchable using the basic search unless the field is added to the advanced search screen via adaptation mode.

In order to make extensions fields searchable via the basic search the extension field must be added to the advanced search via adaptation mode, first.

This can be done as following:

1. From the desired work center, open the desired view. (Products, Opportunities, Tickets, etc.)
2. From the menu (Top right) select Start Adaptation.
3. From the main screen, select the Advanced search to expand the list of searchable fields.
4. Edit the screen (Advanced Search) to include the fields for which you require results to be found in your search, for example, add extension fields as needed.
5. Leave Adaptation mode after making the relevant changes. 
6. Once fields are visible on the advance search pane, they can be searched also via the basic search.
