Symptom
Crystal Reports returns the following error on Refresh:
Logon failed.
Details: IM004:[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Driver's
SQLAllocHandle on SQL_HANDLE_ENV failed
Environment
- Windows 7, 32 bit
- SAP Crystal Reports 2011
- MS SQL Server 2008
Reproducing the Issue
Double-Click a report icon to start Crystal Reports Designer and open the report.
(The error is not reproduced if Crystal Reports Designer started from the Application icon)
Cause
Crystal Reports application does not have required Administrative privileges on the machine.
Resolution
Reinstall SAP Crystal Reports 2011 with required privileges.
According to the Installation Guide: “You must have Administrator privileges on the computer that you intend to install SAP Crystal Reports on.” On the latest versions of Windows, even if logged in As local Administrator, right-click setup.exe file and select "Run as Administrator". If you do not have Administrator account, try right-click "Run as" Select current user and uncheck the "Protect my computer and data from unauthorized program activity".
