Symptom
- Error: Failed to export the report.
- Unable to export to Report Definition format.
- In Crystal Reports, when attempting to export some reports to Report Definition format, it fails with the error: "Failed to export the report".
Environment
- Crystal Reports 2008
Reproducing the Issue
- In Crystal Reports, create a report off any data source.
- Insert a subreport on the report.
- Format the subreport to be on-demand.
- Right click on the subreport, and select "Format Subreport..."
- In the "Format Editor" window, under the tab "Subreport", check the option "On-demand Subreport"
- Click "OK" to accept the change.
- Export the report to Report Definition format.
- It will then display the error: "Failed to export the report."
Cause
- This is a known issue that has been tracked under: ADAPT01185512
- This issue occurs when the report contains an on-demand subreport.
Resolution
- The issue is resolved in Crystal Reports 2011.
- In Crystal Reports 2008, there is no product update that resolves this issue.
- To workaround the issue in Crystal Reports 2008, uncheck the subreport formatting option: "On-demand Subreport":
- In Crystal Reports 2008, open the report that fails to export to Report Definition format.
- In the "Design" view of the report, locate the subreport(s).
- Right click on the subreport, and select "Format Subreport..."
- In the "Format Editor" window, under the tab "Subreport", uncheck the option "On-demand Subreport"
- Click "OK" to accept the change
- Export the report to "Report Definition" format.
