1832020 - What is the difference between inconsistent and banned extractors - Solution Manager 7.10

Symptom

  • What is the difference between inconsistent and banned Extractors?
  • If an Extractor becomes inconsistent or banned are they then stopped and not running anymore?

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Perform the Managed System configuration in the Transaction SOLMAN_SETUP
  2. Check the Extractor Framework for inconsistent or banned extractors (if everything is correct there should not be banned or incosistent extractors)

Resolution

Inconsistent Extractors:
The EFWK Housekeeper changes to extractor status to inconsistent when the LMDB details are incorrect. E.g. the system doesn't exist in the LMDB or the PPMS modeling of the extractor does not match the information in the LMDB.
The Housekeeper checks daily if there is still a discrepancy with the LMDB information, if not the extractor will be scheduled again. For upgraded Managed Systems at least the „Setup Extractors“ step in the Managed System Configuration should be re-executed. In older Solution Manager versions the inconsistent extractors should be deleted before this step.

Banned Extractors:
The EFWK Housekeeper changes to extractor status to banned if the extractor runs longer than the scheduling period or if the extractor has several times in succession a system error (RC = 97) which could potentially produce dumps on the managed system.
The EFWK Housekeeper releases banned extractors after a certain period again. Alternatively they can be released via the "Release" button in the EFWK.
