1845161 - List of values prompt empty for Dynamic Parameter, as well as Static Parameter, in Crystal Reports

Symptom

  • No List of Values (LOV)
  • Parameter has no drop-down list.
  • Parameter prompt box empty in Crystal Reports.
  • Parameter with a Dynamic List of Values, and Parameter with a Static List of Values, does not display any values when prompted.
  • Parameter prompt screen window "Cancel" and "OK" button does not do anything when clicking on it.

Reproducing the Issue

  1. In Crystal Reports, create a report off any data source.
  2. Add a Dynamic Parameter, or a Parameter with a static List of Values.
  3. Add the parameter to the report.
  4. Refresh the report.
  5. Notice th Parameter prompt box does not have any values.
    Also, the "Cancel" and "OK" button are not functional.

Cause

  • Parameter prompt screen in Crystal Reports uses MS Internet Explorer, and JavaScript to display the list of values, and buttons.
  • The reason it does not display any List of Values, and the buttons are not functional on the parameter prompt screen, it's because MS Internet Explorer JavaScript is disabled on the computer.

Resolution

  • Enable JavaScript in MS Explorer.
        
    1. First confirm JavaScript is disable or not, by opening the following link in MS Internet Explorer: 

          http://javatester.org/javascript.html

      If the page does not show: "JavaScript is working in your web browser" then it is blocked or disabled.
                  
    2. To enable MS Internet Explorer JavaScript:
      1. Open MS Internet Explorer.
      2. Under the menu "Tools", select "Internet Options"
      3. Under the "Security" tab, click on the button "Custom Level"
      4. Scroll down to the Scripting section
      5. Enable Active Scripting
      6. Apply the change.
                      
    3. If it does not help, address the question to your IT Administrator, as they may have security set at your company that disable JavaScript.
