Symptom
When you try to create the project from sales order the system will create the project with default type as customer project with sales integration, unable to select different Project Type.

Reproducing the Issue
- You can reproduce this scenario via two ways:
(A) If it is a New Sales Order
- Go to the Sales Orders work center.
- Choose the view Sales Orders.
- Create a New Sales Order under the view Common Tasks.
- Choose View All.
- Navigate to Item Tab.
- Choose Create Project.
- In the pop-up screen for the New Project, enter below details: Project Structure: One task for each item, Person Responsible, Responsible Unit.
- Select Go.
- Under Project, Project Task field you can view Customer project is created. Ex: CPSOXXX.
(B) If it is an existing Sales Order.
- Go to the Sales Orders work center.
- Choose the view Sales Orders.
- In the field Show choose option All Orders and find XXX sales order.
- Edit the sales order ID XXX.
- Choose View All.
- Navigate to Item Tab.
- Choose Create Project.
- In the pop-up screen for the New Project, enter below details: Project Structure: One task for each item, Person Responsible, Responsible Unit.
- Select Go.
- Under Project, Project Task field you can view Customer project is created. Ex: CPSOXXX.
Cause
While creating the project from Sales Order, system will create the project with default type as Customer Project with sales integration. Ex: CPSOXYZ. There are no business configuration option to change this type of project, since this is SAP By Design system Standard Behavior. However if you want to change the default project type to some different customer project type, this can be done as newly created project will have the status as In Planning,you can change its project type by navigating to Project Management work center.
Resolution
Steps to change the project type from default to some other different customer project type:
- Go to the Project Management work center.
- Choose the view Project.
- In the field Show select the option All Projects and find XXX project (XXX represents the ID of the project).
- Choose the project ID XXX.
- Choose Edit and select the task Project Plan.
- Navigate to Basic Data tab.
- Here you will find a field called Project Type.
- From here you can change the required Customer Project Type by selecting from drop down menu.
