1858378 - ISQL connection fails with error 1640 "Adaptive Server requires encryption of the login password on the network" - SAP ASE

Symptom

  • You try to connect to an SAP Adaptive Server Enterprise (ASE) using isql:

isql -Usapsa -S<SID> -w1000 -Dmaster

  • You provide the valid credentials but receive the following error 1640:

Msg 1640, Level 16, State 2:
Server '<DBSID>':
Adaptive Server requires encryption of the login password on the network.
Msg 4002, Level 14, State 1:
Server '<DBSID>':
Login failed.
CT-LIBRARY error:
        ct_connect(): protocol specific layer: external error: The attempt to connect to the server failed.
