1867187 - Error: Protocol 0 not supported within soc_nopen() followed by other errors and/or server hang/crash - ASE

Symptom

The SAP Adaptive Server Enterprise (ASE) errorlog reports some or all of the following:

  • Protocol 0 not supported within soc_nopen() -- (numeric value following "Protocol" may vary)
  • Current process (0x78f00d1) infected with signal 10 (SIGBUS)
  • Current process (0x78f00d1) infected with signal 11 (SIGSEGV)
  • timeslice -1501, current process infected  -- (numeric value following "timeslice" may vary)
  • ASE may hang, requiring external termination and reboot, or may crash
  • A user within ASE or an application may have executed sp_sendmessage system procedure
