1870881 - BI 4.0 Installer does not recognize the previously installed 3.x on the same server

Symptom

Reference page 15 in the attached SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence platform 4.0 Support Package 4 - Installation Guide, following is stated:

3.2 Upgrade support
When the installation program detects a previously installed version of SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence platform, it presents the option to perform a side-by-side installation, which installs the new version, leaving the previously installed version intact.

However in actual, BI 4.0 SP04 (full build) installer does not present any such option or notification in the event BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.1 is previously installed on the same server box. It just provides the usual options to proceed with the installation setup of BI 4.0 SP04.
