1872374 - Incompatible version results in "Improper parameter count " message with Backup Server and ASE

Symptom

  • When dumping a database, the dump fails and Backup Server reports error 3.31.2.3:

Backup Server: 3.31.2.3: Improper parameter count 7 for RPC bs_begin_dump; expected a minimum of 4 parameters and a maximum of '6' parameters.
ASE is terminating this process.

  • As a result the ASE errorlog shows messages like :

Error: 8006, Severity: 20, State: 1
ASE error detected by Backup Server. Refer to the preceding Backup Server message.
SQL Text: dump database db_name to '/path/to/db_name.dmp'

  • Error 8006 is followed by a stack trace containing functions:

as_interpret_rpc_return()
as_exec_rpc()
dmpld_send_begin_dump()
