1875661 - UPDATE ends with error 'Lob file dropped' error in MaxDB

Symptom

During an UPDATE operation, the program ends with a shortdump:

Runtime Error: DBIF_RSQL_SQL_ERROR
Exception: CX_SY_OPEN_SQL_DB

Database error text........: "POS(1) Lob file dropped"
Internal call code.........: "[RSQL/178/SPROXHDR ]"

  And in the relevant work process trace file you see:

C  UPDATE <table_name> SET <field1> = ? , <field2> = ? , <field2> = ?...

B  ***LOG BY4=> sql error -109   performing UPD on table SPROXHDR
[dbtran#10 @ 7512] [dbtran  7512 ]
B  ***LOG BY0=> POS(1) Lob file dropped [dbtran#10 @ 7512] [dbtran  7512
