1878638 - Error: "Error while loading shared libraries" or "open failed" when starting SQL Anywhere binaries on Linux or Unix

Symptom

Attempting to start the SQL Anywhere database engine or SQL Anywhere utilities on Linux or Unix results in one of the errors:

  • Error while loading shared libraries: libdbtool17_r.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
  • Error while loading shared libraries: libdbserv16_r.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
  • Error while loading shared libraries: libdbserv12_r.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
  • fatal: libdbtool12_r.so: open failed: No such file or directory
  • fatal: libdbtool16_r.so: open failed: No such file or directory
  • fatal: libdblib12_r.so: open failed: No such file or directory
  • fatal: libdblib16_r.so: open failed: No such file or directory
