1880000 - Product Category is Not Set Up for Accounting; Select Another Category During Creation of Shopping Cart

Symptom

You are unable to create a shopping cart due to an error 'product category is not set up for accounting; select another category' even though the product category ABC is assigned to service account determination group in Fine Tuning activity Default Account determinationgroups for Product categories.

Environment

 SAP Business ByDesign

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to the Home Work Center.
  2. Select the Self Services Overview.
  3. Select the Go Shopping link.
  4. Select a product from a catalog.
  5. Select Edit Shopping Carts phase.
  6. Now you can see the item type as material by default and the above error message.

Cause

By default system selects the item type as material.

The item is assigned to Product category ABC and product category ABC is maintained with the account determination group for the Services, the system fails to determine the account determination group.

Hence system throws the above error message.

Resolution

System picks up the Item Type from the Product ID (for the internal products) and from the Custom Catalog - if the Product Id is mapped in the catalog.

If the Product ID is not mapped in the custom catalog,  then system would fail to pick the Item Type and defaults the itrem type as Material. In such situation you have to select the Item Type as Service.
