1885295 - J2EE System fails with "exitcode 558"

Symptom

AS JAVA system is failing, and the following message appears on the dev_bootstrap log file:

F  [Thr 6683] *** LOG => SfCJavaVm: exit hook is called. (rc = 558)
F  [Thr 6683] *** LOG => exiting (exitcode 558, retcode 1).

This error usually happens during/after a upgrade.

Looking deeper an other issue which can occur can be seen in the jvm_bootstrap.out file:
