1900976 - Connection issues when database user SAPSR3 incorrectly has administrative privileges - SAP ASE for BS

Symptom

  • SAP GUI, AS ABAP, or tools like R3trans and tp fail to connect and error messages like to following are written to the dev trace files:

4 ETW000  [     dev trc,00000]  ERROR: -1 in function CheckCodepageType (SQLExecDirect failed) [line 29298]
4 ETW000  [     dev trc,00000]  (208) [42000] [Sybase][ODBC Driver][Adaptive Server Enterprise] DBPROPERTIES not found. Specify
4 ETW000  [     dev trc,00000]   owner.objectname or use sp_help to check whether the object exists (sp_help may
4 ETW000  [     dev trc,00000]   produce lots of output).

  • You may see likewise error message referencing tables SVERS, DDNTT, or XXXXT.
  • When checking with native tools like isql you find that the mentioned tables are present in the database.
