Symptom

When executing a Sybase executable like isql or an OpenClient application on the command line, it fails with an error message similar to the following:

% isql -Uxx -Syy -P**** -X
The context allocation routine failed when it tried to load localization files!!
One or more following problems may have caused the failure
Your sybase home directory is /sybase/SOMETHING. Check the environment variable SYBASE if it is not the one you want!
Cannot access file /sybase/SOMETHING/config/objectid.dat
An error occurred when attempting to allocate localization-related structures.
