Symptom

  • The system cannot start, sapcontrol command fails with error:

    FAIL: NIEHOST_UNKNOWN (Address family not supported by protocol),
    NiRawConnect failed in plugin_fopen()

  • The dev_disp trace file may contain:

    *** ERROR => NiPGetHostByName: invalid family NNNNN [niuxi.c 1954]
    *** ERROR => NiHLGetNodeAddr: NiPGetHostByName failed (rc=-1) [nixxhl.cpp 279]
    *** ERROR => NiGetLoopbackAddr: NiIGetNodeAddr failed (rc=-2) [nixx.c 2180]

    *** ERROR => NiDgHdlBindName: invalid hostname 'localhost' (rc=-2;hdl 1) [nixx.c 4341]
    *** ERROR => DpCommInit: NiDgHdlBindName failed: -8 [dpxxdisp.c 10339]
    *** DP_FATAL_ERROR => DpSapEnvInit: DpCommInit
    *** DISPATCHER EMERGENCY SHUTDOWN ***

  • Niping selftest "niping -t -H <hostname of localhost>" fails with error:
    *** ERROR => NiPGetHostByName: invalid family NNNNN                [niuxi.c      1954]
    *** ERROR => NiHLGetNodeAddr: NiPGetHostByName failed (rc=-1) [nixxhl.cpp   269]
    *** ERROR => NiGetLoopbackAddr: NiIGetNodeAddr failed (rc=-2)   [nixx.c       2180]
