Symptom

  • Adaptive Server Enterprise (ASE) server encounters a 'stack overflow' and crashes.  
  • The ASE errorlog reports messages including:

Stack overflow detected: limit: ....
*** Stack guardword corrupted.

with a stack trace that can include modules:

ucstkgentrace
ucbacktrace
ucstackcrash
keipanic

and messages that ASE is shutting down:

*** Stack corrupted, server aborting.
...
 ueshutdown: exiting
