1928365 - How to adapt Customer ID with length More Than 10 Characters Using Date Migration?

You are migrating Customer Data into your system and you have Customer IDs with length more than 10 characters whereas in this system, the maximum length for Customer ID is 10 characters. Hence, you would like to know, how to migrate these Customer IDs and also to make sure that the relation between opportunity & customer or customer & e-mail activity or contact person & todo-activity etc. should not affect.

The migration of object Customer writes a translation table for the account id with the old value and the new value. All dependent objects (like opportunities, activities) reads this translation table and take the new account id. There will be no integration of systems, it is
a single migration to start with a new cloud solution from SAP.

There are two ways of numbering for the Customer ID that is being migrated into this system:
1. Preserve Old Customer Numbers
2. Renumbering as per current number range and allowed length.

Since your old customer numbers is more than 10 digits and only 10 digits are allowed in this system, you must choose the renumbering option. During the Customer data migration a Conversion table for the customer numbers are written in the step 2 (Convert values) during migration process. This includes both the old number and the new customer number.

Now, when you migrate the more objects (for example Opportunities , Activities) , system will check the old customer number and its respective new customer number in the table and will pull the new number. Therefore, system ensures that the correct new number is always drawn.

The contact number is always assigned in the event of migration of customers. Here applies the same principle as with the customer numbers. Since the contact is always migrated along with the customer and there exist always a connection between the customer and the contact.

This is a dependent Objects and therefore always be the combination of your customer number and Contact number will be matched.
