1935476 - Date format does not match selected Locale on a report in Crystal Reports

Symptom

  • Incorrect date format.
  • Date format on the report does not match the user local setting.
  • Example: The report shows the date in US format "mm/dd/yyyy" while "UK" selected in the User Preferences. The expected format is "dd/mm/yyyy"

Environment

  • SAP Crystal Reports 2016
  • SAP Crystal Reports 2020
  • SAP Crystal Reports 2025

  • SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence platform 4.2
  • SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence platform 4.3
  • SAP BusinessObjects Business Intelligence platform 2025

Reproducing the Issue

  1. In SAP BI Launchpad select "English UK" as User Preferences in Locale.
  2. Refresh the report in SAP BI LaunchPad, and notice the date is not formatted based on the Locale selected.

Cause

  • Date field format was set to use a specific Custom format, like "MDY"
  • When the report is designed to display date in a specific  format, like "Month, Day, Year", it will be ignoring  the User Preferences set in SAP BI LaunchPad.

Resolution

  • Format the date field on the report to use the System Default Short format:

    1. In Crystal Reports, open the report.
    2. Right click the Date field, and select "Format Field"
    3. In the "Format Field" window, set the date format to: System Default Short
    4. Save the report back to the SAP BusinessObjects BI platform.
