1942294 - Tempdb 100% full and server locked up. disk init for the new tempdb device hangs - SAP ASE

Symptom

  • ASE ran out of space on tempdb with an 1105 error
  • Tried to increase tempdb space and the ASE server hung
  • Running DISK INIT to create a new device also hangs
  • sp_who shows all process with status:

runnable
sleeping

  • Running  'dbccstacktrace(diskinit_SPID)' reports the following calls

upyield
writeLock
map_lock
dmap_replace_map
db__diskremap_sysusages

  • sp_who shows multiple checkpoints on tempdb showing either:

runnable
sleeping
