1949673 - Why does Web Intelligence Not In List query filter operator applied to a hierarchy level object exclude members unfilled at that level?

Symptom

  • A SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 4.x deployment.
  • A UNV Universe created against a SAP BW BEx query (via SAP BAPI).
  • The query contains a hierarchy for a Characteristic.  Say Characteristic has levels L00 and L01.  Some members of this hierarchy have L01 unfilled.
  • A Web Intelligence (WebI) document reports off this Universe.
  • When L00 and L01 are specified in the WebI query panel Results set, reporting off of L00 and L01 without any query filters show all members of this hierarchy.  Any members with L01 unfilled show "blank" for the L01 object.
  • A query filter is specified in the Web Intelligence query panel.  This filters on L01, where the "Not In List" operator is used to restrict values at this level to a specified L01 value.
  • When refreshed with this filter, not only are the members with L01 specified by the "Not In List" excluded, but all members where L01 are unfilled are also excluded.
